Nestled near the capital Atlanta, Decatur, Georgia is one of those cities where you could easily spend a couple hours and some shell out some moolah on items you didn’t realize you needed. AKA the Target of cities! It’s unofficial motto is “Decatur, where it’s greater!”
A few weeks back, I went on my #ATLMuralMarch and I hopped over and ate with some friends on Decatur Square at the Brick Store. Click here to see my post and get a look at the delicious, but unusual lunch I had there. Definitely recommend that if you are in the area, you should go eat there! I was bummed that I didn’t have enough time to really shop. It was then and there that I decided I would take a separate trip back and just explore Decatur Square.
When I have a free Saturday, I am usually planning something because they are so rare! This past weekend with my moma as my travel companion, we hopped in the car and drove North! It was such a chilly day but we sure didn’t mind it. We popped around in the many shops on the square. Perhaps my favorite was Sq/Ft. When I saw their message board outside that said it was a hipster’s paradise, I just knew I had to go in and browse. I ended up spending some money on macrame plant hangers for my apartment that I literally mentioned to my moma on the way up that I wanted. I call that fate! A travel poster was also purchased but I have yet to get a frame for it since it is such a weird size.
We popped over into another cute little boutique, Squash Blossom that had the coolest half-off advertising chalk outline outside on the ground. We were also greeted by the most precious 3-legged fur baby, aptly named Squash, and I couldn’t help but snap a photo of him. And their fitting rooms, well they are porch doors where you pull the little curtain in the window for privacy. GENIUS! Check them out for cute clothes, beard balms, and other odds and ends.
The art around the square is just as quirky as the shops! A bizarre mural (add it to your #ATLMuralMarch!), artwalks, and a sculpture that has graffiti paintings on it (with no love for our current president it seems!).
Whether you are looking for a funky gift for that quirky friend, trendy clothes, or a mom and pop restaurant with food made from scratch, you definitely need to go to the square in “Decatur, where it’s greater!”
xx,
Sami
